The Compassionate Investigational New Drug program, 1978, or Compassionate IND, is the Investigational New Drug program allowing a limited number of patients to use National Institute on Drug Abuse-provided medical marijuana grown at the University of Mississippi. Closed to new entrants, there are only seven surviving patients who were grandfathered into the program.

Compassionate IND today
The remaining patients in the Compassionate IND program were grandfathered in. There are only seven surviving patients in the program today (two remain anonymous). George McMahon
George McMahon wrote a book (with author/filmmaker Christopher Largen) called "Prescription Pot" in 2003. Since 1997 he has been on a national tour, speaking of his experience as a recipient of medical marijuana. McMahon uses marijuana to relieve pain, spasms and nausea related to repeated surgical and pharmaceutical maltreatment and Nail Patella Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that can cause minor to major skeletal deformities, kidney diseases, misshapen nails, and can make one more prone to glaucoma and scoliosis. He had been hospitalized several times due to side effects of other drugs he was prescribed and he found marijuana made him as comfortable as possible without the side effects of strong prescribed medications. Prior to being accepted to the federal cannabis program in 1990, McMahon had lived through 19 major surgeries, been declared clinically dead five times and was taking 17 different pharmaceutical substances daily, including 400 morphine tablets each month. For the past 18 years, McMahon has smoked 10 cannabis cigarettes daily. During this time he has had no surgeries or hospitalizations and he no longer uses any pharmaceutical drugs except cannabis.

Elvy Musikka
Elvy Musikka was born with congenital cataracts and developed glaucoma in her thirties. Surgery caused her to lose vision in her right eye. She takes marijuana to lessen the pressure on her left eye.

Irvin Rosenfeld
Irvin Rosenfeld, who joined the program in 1983, is the most public of the remaining patients and has been using legal federal marijuana for the longest amount of time. He has been featured in numerous print articles and on the Penn & Teller: Bullshit! cable television series. Rosenfeld has the disease Multiple Congenital Cartilaginous Exostoses, a painful disorder which causes bone tumors to form at the joints, stretching the surrounding tendons and veins, making movement almost impossible. Rosenfeld has had 30 tumors removed in six operations. He still has 200 tumors, some too small to remove, yet in the 30 years he has been smoking marijuana, he says, he has not had a new tumor. Irvin Rosenfeld is a successful stock broker working and living in South Florida.

"Life is Short" ~ Where "Help" comes from.

Righteousness ~ ~ ~ (born > 02~02~1959 > 51st B~day)

Don’t worry about the wicked
or envy those who do wrong.

For like grass, they soon fade away.
Like spring flowers, they soon wither.

Trust in Jah and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.

Take delight in righteousness,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.

Commit everything you do to Jah.
Trust him, and he will help you.

He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Be still in the presence of Jah,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.

Stop being angry!
Turn from your rage!
Do not lose your temper—
it only leads to harm.

For the wicked will be destroyed,
but those who trust in Jah will possess the land.

Soon the wicked will disappear.
Though you look for them, they will be gone.

The lowly will possess the land
and will live in peace and prosperity.

The wicked plot against the godly;
they snarl at them in defiance.

But Jah just knows,
for he sees their day coming.

The wicked draw their swords
and string their bows
to kill the poor and the oppressed,
to slaughter those who do right. But their swords will stab their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.

It is better to be godly and have little
than to be evil and rich.

For the strength of the wicked will be shattered,
but the Jah takes care of the godly.

Day by day Jah takes care of the innocent,
and they will receive an inheritance that lasts forever.

They will not be disgraced in hard times;
even in famine they will have more than enough.

But the wicked will die.
The Jah’s enemies are like flowers in a field—
they will disappear like smoke.

The wicked borrow and never repay,
but the godly are generous givers.

Those Jah blesses will possess the land,
but those he lets will die.

The Jah directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.

Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Jah holds them by the hand.

Once I was young, and now I am old.
Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned
or their children begging for bread.

The godly always give generous loans to others,
and their children are a blessing.

Turn from evil and do good,
and you will live in the land forever.

For Jah loves justice,
and he will never abandon the godly.

He will keep them safe forever,
but the children of the wicked will die.

The godly will possess the land
and will live there forever.

The Righteous offer good counsel;
they teach right from wrong.

They have made Jah’s law their own,
so they will never slip from his path.

The wicked wait in ambush for the godly,
looking for an excuse to kill them.

But Jah will not let the wicked succeed
or let the godly be condemned when they are put on trial.

Jah Put your hope in Jah.
Travel steadily along his path.
He will honor you by giving you the land.
You will see the wicked destroyed.

I have seen wicked and ruthless people
flourishing like a tree in its native soil.

But when I looked again, they were gone!
Though I searched for them, I could not find them!

Look at those who are honest and good,
for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace.

But the rebellious will be destroyed;
they have no future.

Jah rescues the godly;
he is their fortress in times of trouble.

Jah helps them,
rescuing them from the wicked.
He saves them,
and they find shelter in him.
