Cost of the War in Iraq:

Dear Friend,

U.S. Budget Priorities: This pie chart does not include the bailout or the massive increase Congress voted overwhelmingly to give the Pentagon for this year.
click for larger image

Coming soon Congress is expected to vote on the largest military budget in history, while President Obama will ask for an additional $33 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Already, the federal government spends over 50% of its budget on military operations and the Pentagon and this year Washington will be asking for even more. Time and again we've seen this country's resources be dished out to war profiteers while our own domestic needs and the needs of our sisters and brothers in Afghanistan and Iraq go unmet.

President Obama will give his 2010 State of the Union address at 9 pm EST this Wednesday, January 27 and he's is expected to announce a major domestic spending freeze with no cuts to war and military. As he outlines his vision for the country in this annual address, what changes would you like to see made to foreign policy, the economy or health care? Are there other issues that you think deserve more attention? You know what we think -- we want to hear from you! What IS the state of YOUR union in 2010?

Share your vision for the future with your community by hosting a house party (use our hot SOTU party tools & tips) or by bringing the CODEPINK spirit (and our Bingo cards) to a local Organizing for America party and join our tweetroom during your party to see what folks around the country are saying #SOTU!

Take our State of YOUR Union survey and let us know where your energy is and where you'd like to see pieces of the Pentagon pie be allocate.

Vote up our idea for peace on Change.org's Idea for Change in America contest and help us get to the finals so President Obama will hear our idea! Two-click democracy in action! Tweet it, Facebook it!

Let's toast (using our pink SOTU-tini drink recipe) to transforming our hope into action and turning the bloated Pentagon budget into a real foundation for security!

Interesting Facts about Cannabis - Marijuana, Weed, Dope, Blow, Hemp...

Cannabis contains more than 400 chemicals. The main psychoactive ingredient is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or 'THC'. Cannabis became a controlled substance in Britain in 1928 44% of 16 to 29 year-olds have tried cannabis at some point in their lives. Half of them have used it in the last year. In 1998, 76% of people arrested for drugs offences in Britain were charged with possession of cannabis. Smoking marijuana is more popular in America than surfing the Internet.

Ganja, marijuana, weed, puff, smoke, pot, herb, dope, resin, grass, there are hundreds of names to describe it. But, call it what you want, the recreational use of cannabis is still illegal in Britain, although that hasn't stopped around half of all young people trying it.

Origin of the Species

The drug itself is derived from Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica, a plant related to nettles and hops that grows wild in many parts of the world. Cultivation dates back thousands of years. The first written account of cannabis use can be found in Chinese records dating from 2800 BC. However, experts widely accept that cannabis was being used for medical, recreational and religious purposes for thousands of years before that.

The plant is believed to have originated in the mountainous regions of India. When left growing wild, it can reach a height of 5 metres and flowers naturally from late summer to mid autumn. Customs estimate that up to 80% of cannabis resin entering the UK originates from Morocco and most smuggled supplies in its herbal form come from Jamaica. However, an enormous amount of cannabis these days is actually home-grown.
