Dear Friend,

U.S. Budget Priorities: This pie chart does not include the bailout or the massive increase Congress voted overwhelmingly to give the Pentagon for this year. click for larger image |
Coming soon Congress is expected to vote on the largest military budget in history, while President Obama will ask for an additional $33 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Already, the federal government spends over 50% of its budget on military operations and the Pentagon and this year Washington will be asking for even more. Time and again we've seen this country's resources be dished out to war profiteers while our own domestic needs and the needs of our sisters and brothers in Afghanistan and Iraq go unmet.
President Obama will give his 2010 State of the Union address at 9 pm EST this Wednesday, January 27 and he's is expected to announce a major domestic spending freeze with no cuts to war and military. As he outlines his vision for the country in this annual address, what changes would you like to see made to foreign policy, the economy or health care? Are there other issues that you think deserve more attention? You know what we think -- we want to hear from you! What IS the state of YOUR union in 2010?
Let's toast (using our pink SOTU-tini drink recipe) to transforming our hope into action and turning the bloated Pentagon budget into a real foundation for security!
